BRAZIL: Real weakens amid interest rate controversy

At the end of trading on 20 June the US dollar closed at R$5.45, its highest level since the start of Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s third term, reflecting private sector concern over his repeated verbal clashes with the central bank president, Roberto Campos Neto.
