GUATEMALA: Arévalo confronted with fresh challenges

Severe flooding has claimed eight lives and affected thousands of people in Guatemala, as well as sweeping away part of the highway linking Guatemala City to the Pacific, complicating the transport of imports and exports. This comes at a challenging time for the government led by President Bernardo Arévalo as a long-running legal case over Puerto Quetzal, the country’s main Pacific port, has come to a head.
