*Uruguay’s agriculture minister, Fernando Mattos, has announced the resumption of beef exports to Malaysia after a 14-year suspension. Malaysia suspended Uruguayan beef imports in 2010 after bringing in new regulations on Halal meat preparation. Mattos travelled to the country for talks with government officials and religious authorities, and agreed new protocols that he said comply with veterinary standards and Islamic rules. Mattos noted that Malaysia currently imports around 250,000 tonnes of beef per year.
