PERU: Anti-corruption unit facing mounting obstacles

Already facing multiple corruption allegations, Peru’s President Dina Boluarte drew further scrutiny on 9 May when she ordered the removal of police support for the special anti-corruption task force (Eficcop) in the attorney general’s office. The move came the day before prosecutors arrested Boluarte’s brother, Wigberto Nicanor Boluarte, as part of an Eficcop-led investigation into alleged bribery and influence peddling in his sister’s government.
