*Mexico’s labour ministry (STPS) has announced the resolution of a labour rights probe that was requested by the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) under the rapid response labour mechanism (RRM) of the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) in April. The investigation concerned allegations that workers were being denied the right to collective bargaining and freedom of association at Minera Tizapa, a subsidiary of Mexico’s second-largest mining company, Industria Peñoles, in Zacazonapan municipality, Estado de México (Edomex). The STPS announced yesterday that eight workers had returned to their roles and that three others had been rehired at Minera Tizapa, which has committed to respecting workers’ right to unionise.
