TRACKING TRENDS

Chile’s GDP expanded by 2.3% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2024, the central bank reported last week, the fastest pace of growth since the 4.4% registered in the second quarter of 2022, directly after President Gabriel Boric came to power. The finance minister, Mario Marcel, said the figures vindicated the decision by the government to lift the annual GDP forecast for 2024 from 2.5% to 2.7% earlier this month. The economy posted 0.2% growth in 2023.
