Brazil’s minister for justice & public security, Ricardo Lewandowski, released a list of guidelines on 28 May regarding the use of body cameras on the uniforms of police officers. The rules are compulsory for all federal security units but are only recommended for state police forces. It remains to be seen whether all state governments, such as the right-wing government of São Paulo, the military police of which has previously faced accusations of excessive force, will follow the suggestions of the federal government.
