*Peru’s national statistics institute (Inei) has announced that the country’s GDP increased by 1.4% in the first quarter of 2024, compared with the same period last year. In quarterly terms, GDP grew by 0.8%. The yearly rise was driven by increases in internal demand (+2.1%) and the export of goods and services (+2.9%). Inei attributed the improved performance of exports to increases in the price of gold and copper, and said that the rise in internal demand was due to increases in gross fixed investment (+5.9%) and total consumption (+1.8%).
