BRAZIL: Lula promises to extend tax benefits for local governments
Thousands of mayors and other local officials from towns and cities across Brazil gathered in the capital on 20 May for the four-day ‘Marcha dos Prefeitos’ event run every year by the national confederation of municipalities (CNM). The gathering was a chance for municipal leaders to air their grievances as a collective to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who spoke at the event on 21 May and promised to address demands such as tax benefits for municipal governments.
