*The Confederação Nacional da Indústria (CNI), the national lobby group for Brazil’s industrial sector, has released a report which noted 85 trade barriers hindering Brazilian exports. The CNI also called on the government to negotiate with foreign countries to eliminate their restrictions. The lobby group’s figures show of the US$151bn worth of goods exported to the European Union (EU) and China in 2023, over U$79bn was subject to some kind of restriction. The most common types of trade restrictions cited by the CNI were sanitary & phytosanitary restrictions (SPS), technical barriers to trade (TBT), and import taxes. The export destinations with the greatest number of restrictions against Brazilian exports were the EU, China, and Japan.
