*Peru’s President Dina Boluarte has announced that the country received US$995m in mining investment in the first quarter of 2024 – up 17% on the same period last year. She said that “in 2023, mining investment exceeded US$4bn; this year the goal is to exceed US$5bn, which will be used to generate more jobs, trade and growth, supporting the country’s economic reactivation”. Boluarte was addressing the XV International Mining Symposium organised by Peru’s main extractive lobby, the Sociedad Nacional Peruana de Minería, Petróleo y Energía (SNMPE).
