*Peru’s congress has voted to archive three impeachment motions that were submitted against President Dina Boluarte on 16 May. All of the motions were rejected by similar margins. The two motions accusing Boluarte of obstructing justice were rejected with 52 votes against, 38 in favour, and 17 abstentions; and by 54 votes against, 36 in favour, and 21 abstentions. A third motion accusing her of taking unauthorised leave to receive cosmetic surgery was rejected with 51 votes against, 38 in favour, and 20 abstentions. In a further boost for the president, an appeals court yesterday ordered the release from prison of her brother, Wigberto Nicanor Boluarte, and the family’s lawyer, Mateo Castañeda, who had both been arrested on 10 May and charged with influence peddling. The court ruled that there was no justification for them to be placed under preventive detention and said that they do not present a flight risk.
