Bolivia’s President Luis Arce and former president Evo Morales (2006-2019) are increasingly operating in parallel realities. The divisions within the ruling left-wing Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) between Arce’s ‘Arcistas’ and Morales’ ‘Evistas’ grew wider still on 5 May, when a party congress organised by the Arcista faction removed Morales as party leader, replacing him with Arce loyalist Grover García.
