*Brazil’s national association of vehicle manufacturers (Anfavea) has released its latest production and sales figures, showing 222,100 units produced in April and 220,800 sold in the domestic market. This is up 35.5% and 17.6% respectively on March. However, Anfavea has noted that exports in April, totalling 27,300 units, saw a monthly drop of 16.4%. In a press release, the association attributed the slump in exports to supply chain disruptions, citing factors such as delays by the federal environmental regulator (Ibama) in approving import licences for the automative sector. Another challenge for Brazil’s automotive industry highlighted by Anfavea is the climate emergency currently afflicting the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul, as heavy storms and severe flooding have affected car factories in the state.
