CHILE: Mapuche leader sentenced
On 7 May Héctor Llaitul, the leader of Coordinadora Arauco-Malleco (CAM), the armed Mapuche separatist movement active in the south of Chile, was sentenced to 23 years in prison by a court in Temuco, the capital of La Araucanía region, for “violent usurpation of property, theft and attacks against authority”.
