*Workers at Chile’s state-owned oil company Empresa Nacional de Petróleo (Enap) have announced protests in response to the dismissal of over 30 workers as a result of a business restructuring. A statement posted on social media by Enap’s union cites its president Guido Kusanovic as describing the layoffs as an “improper and inconsistent act” which “goes against all aspects of the supposed best labour practices which Enap publicly promotes”, as well as against “investment plans and future projects and the development of renewable energies such as green hydrogen”. A public statement by Enap circulated in the local media announced a restructuring of various units of its business but said that the dismissals were not part of a wider plan but rather corresponded to the “need to adapt to new challenges facing the company”.
