*Argentina’s Economy Minister Luis Caputo has held a meeting with leaders of energy companies to discuss the settling of the debt that Cammesa, the state-owned wholesale electricity company, has accumulated with them. “Given the budgetary effort already made to cancel multiple debts of the previous government, a proposal was presented today to cancel the transactions of December 2023 and January 2024 through the delivery of government bonds for an amount of approximately US$600bn of nominal value,” stated the economy ministry in a statement widely cited in the local press. Representatives from Cammesa, state-run oil company YPF, Argentine oil and gas companies Tecpetrol, Pluspetrol, and Pampa Energía, France’s Total Energies, and US-headquartered AES Corporation, among others, reportedly attended the meeting.
