DOMINICAN REPUBLIC-HAITI: Renewed pressure over migrant rights

The alleged rape of a Haitian girl by a Dominican immigration agent has caused uproar in the Dominican Republic, where the government led by President Luis Abinader is already facing pressure to address its treatment of migrants – particularly from neighbouring Haiti. It comes as the Abinader government has been taking measures in response to the unprecedented crisis taking place across its border, where coordinated gang attacks at the end of February led to a state of emergency and forced the ouster of Prime Minister Ariel Henry [WR-24-10].
