The Estado Mayor Central (EMC), a dissident faction of the demobilised Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC) guerrilla group, has announced that it is creating a new armed bloc in the centre of Colombia. The government’s peace commissioner, Otty Patiño, says he “welcomes” the development, while the defence minister, Iván Velásquez, says he rejects it completely.
