*Peru’s President Dina Boluarte has sworn in Gustavo Adrianzén as her new prime minister following the resignation of Alberto Otárola, who was placed under investigation by the attorney general’s office following allegations that he improperly offered a job to a woman with whom he had a romantic relationship. Since February 2023 Adrianzén had served as Peru’s ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS). He previously served as justice minister for six months in 2015 under former president Ollanta Humala (2011-2016) but resigned when congress moved to censure him after he dismissed a prosecutor leading a money laundering probe into then first lady Nadine Heredia. Boluarte did not change any other members of her cabinet, which must now pass a confidence vote in congress in the coming weeks. In his first public comments after becoming prime minister, Adrianzén said that the government will “expand upon and strengthen that which has already been carried out, focussing on two central pillars: economic reactivation and citizen security”.
