*Honduras’ central bank (BCH) has released new figures which show economic growth in 2023 was 3.8%, driven mainly by financial intermediation (+15.2%), telecommunications (+5.0%), transport & storage (+7.9%), trade (+2.5%), agriculture, livestock, forestry & fishing (+2.6%), hotels & restaurants (+12.2%), and private construction (+6.5%). Industrial manufacturing however registered a fall (-7.2%), associated with the drop in foreign demand for textiles. The 2023 figure exceeded the forecast from the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (Eclac) made in December 2023 which predicted that Honduras’s growth would come in at 3.3% in 2023, although it is forecasting this will rise to 3.5% in 2024.
