The federal police (PF) has launched a new series of investigations, dubbed Operation ‘Vigilância Aproximada’, targeting a network within Brazil’s national intelligence agency (Abin) that allegedly carried out illegal surveillance activities during the presidency of Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2023). The PF searched the properties of former Abin director Alexandre Ramagem on 25 January and of Bolsonaro’s second son, Carlos Bolsonaro, on 29 January.
