In brief: Brazil’s services sector sees monthly rise

*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released its figures for the services sector in November, showing a monthly growth rate of 0.4%, although the volume of services dropped by 0.3% compared to November 2022. The accumulated volume of services in the 12 months until November 2023 registered 3.0% growth compared to the previous 12-month period. The latest monthly rise comes after three consecutive months of monthly slumps in services. Out of the five categories measured, three registered monthly increases. The categories which registered decreases were information & communications services (-0.1%) and transport & postal services (-1.0%). The category which the largest monthly increase was other services (+3.6%); this marks the category’s third consecutive month of growth. According to an Ibge press release, the growth in this category was mainly driven by financial services, amid greater demand for electronic payment systems.
