*Mexico’s national tax authority (SAT) has released figures showing that tax take totalled M$4.5trn in 2023, an increase of 12.3% in real terms as compared to 2022. SAT noted that yearly tax take has increased by 48% in nominal terms, from M$3trn to M$4.5trn, since President Andrés Manuel López Obrador took office in 2018, which has been achieved without creating new taxes or increasing existing ones. The government has previously attributed rises in tax take to tax efficiency measures and a clamp down on tax evasion. According to the SAT, this has allowed for greater spending on infrastructure and social programmes.
