*Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has forecast that economic growth will reach 3.5% this year. Speaking in a daily presidential press conference, López Obrador said this meant that yearly economic growth would average 1.3% over his six-year term, which he said was “a feat” given the economic impact of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. In the latest (15 December) survey of economic analysts carried out by Mexico’s central bank (Banxico), analysts raised their 2024 growth forecast from 2.10% to 2.29%, still some way below López Obrador’s expectations.
