In brief: Experts forecast slower growth and inflation for Brazil

*Brazil’s central bank (BCB) has released the latest edition of its weekly Focus bulletin, which includes economic forecasts from private sector analysts and economists. In the first edition to be published in 2024, market analysts projected an annual GDP growth rate of 1.52% for this year, which would mark a decrease from the 2.92% growth projected for 2023. Annual inflation is expected to close the year at 3.90%, which is within the BCB’s 2024 annual inflation target range of 3.00% +/- 1.5. The latest inflation figures released by the national statistics institute (Ibge) showed that accumulated inflation in the 12 months to November 2023 stood at 4.68%. According to the latest Focus bulletin, annual inflation for 2023 is projected to have closed the year at 4.46%. Ibge is expected to release inflation figures for December 2023 next week.
