In brief: Mexico’s trade deficit decreases in October

* Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has released new figures which show that in October the country registered a trade deficit of US$252m, a significant decrease on the deficit of US$2.09bn recorded in the same month in 2022. It is also down from a deficit of US$1.48bn in September, US$1.38bn in August, and US$881m in July. According to Inegi, in the first ten months of 2023, the trade deficit was US$10.34bn, less than half the US$27.74bn recorded in the same period of 2022. The report showed that in October, exports totalled US$51.97bn, with US$48.78bn coming from non-oil exports and US$3.19bn from oil exports. This represented a 5.6% increase in total exports compared to the previous year. In October, imports totalled US$52.23bn, a yearly increase of 1.8%.
