*Argentina’s ambassador to Bolivia, Ariel Basteiro, has announced that Argentina’s government had reached an agreement with Bolivia over payments due on banana exports from that country. In a statement, Bolivia’s deputy foreign trade minister, Benjamín Blanco, said that negotiations between Bolivia’s President Luis Arce and Argentina’s President Alberto Fernández, as well as Bolivia’s Vice President David Choquehuanca and Argentina’s Economy Minister Sergio Massa, had resulted in the design of a mechanism to ensure payment of the US$12m that Argentina owes to Bolivian banana exporters. This mechanism will allow the gradual disbursement of payments, with a first payment of US$3m expected on 24 November. Payment of the full amount is expected to be completed in the next ten days. Blanco also confirmed that Bolivian banana producers had “expressed their willingness to resume exports” after halting exports due to lack of payment last week.
