In brief: Chile-US tax treaty reaches final stages

* Chile’s President Gabriel Boric has announced that Chile and the US will implement a tax treaty with the aim of combatting double taxation, after a decade of back-and-forth discussions. President Boric made the announcement during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) CEO summit, which took place in San Francisco, California between 14-16 November, as part of the wider Apec summit. Speaking at the Apec CEO summit, which enabled business leaders, entrepreneurs, and politicians from the Asia-Pacific region to discuss global opportunities, politics, and innovation, President Boric said the treaty meant that “investments from Chile to the US and from the US to Chile will no longer have to pass through double taxation”. Chile’s senate approved the tax treaty, which had failed to advance in both congresses in recent years, on 15 November, following its approval in the US senate in June.
