In brief: Amazon launches wind energy project in Brazil

* US technology company Amazon has announced its first wind energy project in Brazil. In partnership with the Brazilian energy company Elera Renováveis, Amazon plans to construct a wind farm in the Seridó wind energy complex, located in the north-eastern state of Rio Grande do Norte. The project is expected to have an installed capacity of 49.5 megawatts (MW) and is estimated to generate 255 gigawatts-hours (GWh) per year when completed. The US tech giant has stated that the construction project would create around 1,000 jobs in Brazil, half of which are local workers from Rio Grande do Norte state. This is the second renewable energy project that Amazon has in Brazil, having launched a solar farm with a power generation capacity of 122 MW in September 2022, developed in partnership with EDP Renováveis, a subsidiary of the Portuguese energy company EDP.
