In brief: Mexico’s industrial activity down in monthly terms

* Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has published new data for its monthly index of industrial activity (Imai), showing that industrial activity increased by 0.2% in September. This follows increases of 0.3% in August and 0.2% in July. Activity in manufacturing industries increased 1.7%, although utilities (electricity generation and transmission, provision of water and gas) fell by 0.2%, mining by 1%, and construction by 4.1%. In seasonally adjusted annual terms, September saw an increase in industrial activity of 4.5%. This was attributed to an increase in construction (19.5%), utilities (7.2%), manufacturing industries (1.2%), and mining (0.8%).
