* Peru’s mining and energy ministry (Minem) has announced increases in the production of key metal products. Copper production in September was up by 2.5%, gold by 12.9%, zinc by 8.6%, lead by 21.6%, iron by 25.2%, tin by 8.8%, and molybdenum by 40.5%. Minem stated that the increase in the production of copper, Peru’s most important mineral export, owed to greater production at the Las Bambas, Marcobre, and Quellaveco mines. Las Bambas was heavily impacted by recurrent anti-mining protests last year, while the Quellaveco mine only became operational in September 2022.
