Paraguay’s President
Santiago Peña has announced the reopening of the US market to Paraguayan beef after 25 years. This makes Paraguay one of 18 countries that can export that product to the US according to US Ambassador to Paraguay
Marc Ostfield. The announcement was made after President Peña met with the US Undersecretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and Environment
Jose Fernandez who was visiting Paraguay. In a statement, President Peña said that the news represented
“a milestone in commercial bilateral relations and reflects the continuing commitment of both countries to strengthen cooperation on economic matters” adding that it was the result of
“arduous work and the dedication of Paraguayan producers”. The final decision is expected to be published by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) in the federal register the week of 13 November, and will come into force 30 days after publication.
