BRAZIL | Bird flu concerns persist. The agriculture ministry announced on 7 November that it would extend the national animal health emergency for another 180 days. The emergency was first declared on 22 May due to rising cases of the H5N1 strain of bird flu (avian influenza). In May it was first detected among wild birds and in July the first case among domesticated birds was detected.
