Biden rallies region to confront challenge of China and migration

Leaders from Latin America and the Caribbean met US President Joe Biden at the White House on 3 November for the inaugural meeting of the Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity (Apep). If the Alliance for Progress (AFP) was launched by President John Kennedy to reduce poverty in the region and promote inclusive economic development with a view to decreasing the attraction of Communism, the Apep has been launched by Biden to promote inclusive economic development while countering the growing influence of Communist China in the region and stemming the flow of migrants heading northwards.
