HONDURAS: Attorney general appointment strains US relations

A festering dispute over the appointment of a new interim attorney general and deputy attorney general acquired a new dimension this week, heightening tensions between the Honduran and US governments. Forthright criticism from several US officials, including Ambassador Laura Dogu, coincided with the decision by the US to exclude Honduras from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) economic aid programme, for failing to meet corruption targets.
