GUATEMALA: President-elect proposes moderate economic reforms

President-elect Bernardo Arévalo, who continues to face considerable pushback from Guatemala’s discredited political establishment following his remarkable 20 August run-off victory, has highlighted as key objectives with regard to the economy the need to boost employment, reduce poverty, and improve infrastructure. Here we look at some of the proposals put forward by his left-of-centre Movimiento Semilla (Semilla) which is due to take office in January 2024.
