In brief: Chile’s economic activity back on the rise

* Chile’s central bank (BCCh) has published the September figures for its monthly index of economic activity (Imacec), which shows a 0.6% increase compared to the previous month and no variation in comparison with September 2022. In year-on-year terms, there was growth in the production of goods (+4.3%) due to an increase in mining (+6.3%), which was offset by declines in services (-1.0%) and trade (-5.1%). The monthly increase was driven by growth in mining (+2.9%) and other goods (+1.8%). The Imacec fell by 0.9% in August in yearly terms and by 0.5% in monthly terms, following a yearly increase of 1.8% in July – the first annual increase after five consecutive falls.
