Guatemalan election results confirmed in boost for Arévalo

Guatemala’s president-elect Bernardo Arévalo received a significant fillip on 31 October when the supreme electoral tribunal (TSE) declared that it was certifying the results of the two rounds of the general election, held on 25 June and 20 August, meaning that they were now officially “inalterable”. Whether this will prove sufficient to deter the attorney general, Consuelo Porras, from continuing with her efforts to challenge and undermine the election results is unclear. There is some speculation that Porras may, in fact, now feel the need to ramp up these attempts.
