BRAZIL: Land invaders to be evicted from indigenous reserve

From 2020-2022 the Apyterewa indigenous territory in the northern state of Pará was the indigenous reserve registering the highest rates of deforestation in the entire Amazon region. At the start of October federal authorities began an operation to remove the illegal cattle ranchers and other land invaders from two reserves in Pará. They set 31 October as the deadline for all remaining ranchers, miners, and loggers to leave of their own accord or face being forcibly removed by law enforcement personnel.
