BRAZIL: Lula deploys military to bolster security in Rio and São Paulo
On 1 November Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed a decree to mobilise the armed forces for specific domestic security operations, known as a ‘Garantia da Lei e da Ordem’ (GLO), deploying military units to patrol ports and airports in the states of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
