In brief: Chile reports increase in industrial production

* Chile’s national statistics institute (INE) has released the latest figures for its index of industrial production (IPI), which increased by 1.5% in September compared with the same month last year. This was the most substantial year-on-year rise since December 2021, and the second consecutive rise following six months of year-on-year contractions from February-July. According to the INE, the result was explained by increased output in the mining sector and in electricity, gas & water production. The mining production index (IPMin) was up by 4.3% compared to September 2022, while the index of electricity, gas & water production (Ipega), saw a 2.0% yearly increase. The manufacturing production index (IPMan), meanwhile, posted a year-on-year decline of 1.1%, mainly driven by an 8.4% decline in the production of beverages.
