COLOMBIA: Regional elections set to test Petro’s popularity

Colombians will head to the polls on 29 October to vote in regional and municipal elections. Whilst local issues will influence voters’ decisions, the results will also be read as a verdict on President Gustavo Petro’s government, which took office last year with a bold progressive agenda but is increasingly finding itself mired in legislative gridlock and scandal. The ruling left-wing Pacto Histórico is bracing for a rebuke from voters.
