BRAZIL: Amazon drought devastates wildlife

The severe drought which has been afflicting the northern states of Brazil in recent weeks has caused water levels in the Amazon basin to drop to a record low in recent years. The environmental monitoring initiative MapBiomas, run by NGOs, academics, and technology companies, reported on 16 October that Amazonian surface water registered its lowest level this September since 2018, heavily impacting local biodiversity.
