In brief: Guatemala’s quarterly GDP growth up in Q2

* Guatemala’s central bank (Banguat) has released new figures which show that GDP in the second quarter of 2023 posted growth of 3.8% year-on-year. This is up from 3.7% registered in the first quarter of 2023 but down from 4.5% registered in the same quarter in 2022. The latest estimates from the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (Eclac), released on 5 September, forecast that Guatemala will post 3.4% GDP growth in 2023. This is above Honduras (3.4%), Nicaragua (2.4%), and El Salvador (2.1%) but below Panama (5.1%) and Costa Rica (3.8%).
