BRAZIL: Former aide claims Bolsonaro discussed coup

Having agreed to a plea bargain on 9 September, Mauro Cid, a close ally of the right-wing former president Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2023), has reportedly confessed potentially incriminating information to federal police (PF). On 21 September journalists from the national daily O Globo and the news website UOL reported leaked details from Cid’s confession, which included claims that Bolsonaro had met military leaders allegedly to discuss plans to overturn his defeat in last October’s presidential election.
