In brief: Poverty rate falls in Colombia

* Colombia’s national statistics department (Dane) has announced that the country’s poverty rate in 2022 was 36.6%, down from 39.7% in 2021. The rate of extreme poverty rose slightly, however, from 13.7% in 2021 to 13.8% in 2022. The poverty rate was highest in the cities of Quibdó (Chocó department – 62.3%), Sincelejo (Sucre – 49.5%), and Riohacha (La Guajira – 48.8%). Poverty rates were lowest in the cities of Manizales (Caldas – 20.6%), Cali (Valle del Cauca – 24.0%), and Medellín (Antioquia – 24.8%).
