In brief: Unemployment drops in Argentina

* Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has published employment data for the second quarter of 2023, revealing that the unemployment rate among the economically active population, which includes individuals over the age of 14 who are either employed or actively seeking employment, is 6.2%. This represents a drop of 0.7 percentage points from the 6.9% unemployment rate that was recorded in both the first quarter of this year and the second quarter of 2022. The regions of the Pampas and greater Buenos Aires areas recorded the highest unemployment rates, at 6.8% and 6.7% respectively, while the lowest unemployment rate was found in the Cuyo region at 4.1%. The underemployment rate rose to 10.6% in the second quarter of 2023, up from 9.4% in the first quarter but down from 11.1% in the same quarter of 2022.
