VENEZUELA: Maduro gets warm welcome in China
Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro met China’s President Xi Jinping in Beijing on 12 September, with Chinese state media reporting that Xi upgraded China’s relationship with Venezuela to an “all-weather strategic partnership”. A key aim of Maduro’s visit appears to have been met, with China pledging to cooperate in the development of Venezuela’s growing number of special economic zones (SEZs).
