In brief: Costa Rica posts highest August deflation in five years

* Costa Rica’s national statistics institute (Inec) has released new figures which show that monthly inflation in August was -0.16% which it says is the highest monthly deflation rate for the month of August of the last five years. The August monthly rate brings the annual rate to -3.28% and the accumulated rate for the year to -1.87%. The monthly figure is down from -0.19% registered in July when the annual rate was -2.29%.
